How AI Is Changing the Grid and What Experts See Coming

The United States Energy Association’s recent virtual press briefing, “AI Takes Hold in the Electric Utility Space,” examined how artificial intelligence is becoming central to utility operations, from forecasting and wildfire modeling to system management and planning. With data centers driving new electricity demand, speakers discussed both the opportunities and the pressures created by AI’s expanding role. EPB CEO David Wade was among the experts contributing to the discussion, joining leaders from CPS Energy, the Large Public Power Council, EPRI, HED, Switched Source and EY. Reporters from outlets including Politico, The Washington Post, PBS, Forbes and Energy Central helped frame the broader conversation about how utilities are adapting to an increasingly AI-driven grid.
