Chattanooga Attracts AI-Powered Healthcare Tech Growth with Valerie Health Expansion

Chattanooga Image

Chattanooga continues to strengthen its position as a hub for innovation and high-growth companies with the expansion of Valerie Health, an AI-powered healthcare technology company, into the region. The San Francisco-based company has announced the establishment of a new regional operations hub in downtown Chattanooga, marking a significant investment in the local economy and workforce.
Valerie Health serves independent provider groups by embedding AI agents with human-in-the-loop operations directly into existing clinic workflows and systems. This technology automates administrative tasks such as referrals, faxes and scheduling, helping improve patient access and streamline care delivery. The Chattanooga office will play a central role in scaling these operations as the company grows.
As part of its expansion, Valerie Health plans to create 100 new jobs by the end of 2026, with a goal of more than 200 jobs within three years. Roles will span operations, engineering, and sales, offering competitive compensation and benefits, including 99% employer-covered health insurance and equity for all full-time employees. This job creation represents a meaningful opportunity for workforce growth in a fast-growing, emerging healthcare technology sector.
The Chattanooga hub will be led by Lauren (Mullins) Coile, director of operations, who brings local experience from One to One Health and Bellhop, along with a strong background in healthcare innovation. Valerie Health’s leadership team also includes CEO and co-Founder Pete Shalek, formerly of Optum and AbleTo, and CTO and co-Founder Nitin Joshi, formerly of Uber and Stripe.
“We’re thrilled to invest in Chattanooga’s vibrant talent pool and contribute to the city’s growing healthcare technology ecosystem,” said Pete Shalek, CEO of Valerie Health. “This expansion reflects our commitment to long-term growth and our mission to empower independent provider groups with cutting-edge technology.”
Local leaders welcomed the announcement as a positive signal for the region’s economic momentum. Adam Myers, vice president of economic and talent development for the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the career opportunities created by the expansion, noting the accelerated growth potential for residents in an emerging sector.
Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly emphasized the broader impact on the community, citing the confidence innovative companies place in the region’s tech sector and workforce. Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp echoed this sentiment, pointing to the region’s quality of life and entrepreneurial roots as key factors in attracting investment that strengthens families and the local economy.
Valerie Health’s decision to establish a regional operations hub in Chattanooga represents more than a company expansion — it underscores the region’s growing reputation as a destination for healthcare technology, innovation, and high-quality job creation.

Fratco Breaks Ground in Fort Payne

Fratco Groundbreaking Ceremony

A century-old leader in corrugated plastic pipe manufacturing is investing in the future of northeast Alabama. Fratco has officially broken ground on a state-of-the-art production facility in Fort Payne, marking its first ground-up plant in the Southeast and signaling a significant economic boost for DeKalb County.

The new 42,000-square-foot facility will bring 50 to 60 new jobs in manufacturing, logistics and administration, expanding opportunities for local families and strengthening the region’s industrial base. The plant will initially produce single- and double-wall corrugated pipe ranging from 3 to 18 inches in diameter, with room to scale up to 48 inches as demand grows.

Strategic Expansion Strengthens the Region’s Manufacturing Landscape

Fratco’s decision to establish its Southeastern hub in DeKalb County followed an extensive multistate site selection process. The choice reflects the region’s skilled workforce, infrastructure advantages and strong community partnerships — factors that continue to make the 16-county region a preferred destination for industry.

“The South isn’t just growing — it’s evolving,” said Bill Champion, Fratco’s chief operating officer. “We are thrilled to become part of that transformation.”

Fratco worked closely with the city of Fort Payne, the DeKalb County Economic Development Authority, the state of Alabama and Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT) to bring the project to life under the state’s new competitive economic development laws. Together, these partners helped create a business environment that made Fort Payne the clear choice.

Collaboration Drives Regional Success

“DeKalb County rolled out the red carpet,” Champion added. “From local officials to community leaders, everyone worked tirelessly to make this happen. It’s a perfect example of local collaboration driving regional success.”

That collaboration is already being recognized as a model for economic growth in Alabama. Ellen McNair, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce, praised the effort as proof of the state’s ability to support world-class manufacturers.

“This project highlights the teamwork that makes our state stand out, from local leaders in DeKalb County to our workforce partners at AIDT,” McNair said. “Alabama is proud to welcome Fratco to our growing network of innovative manufacturers.”

A Long-Term Win for the Community

Local leaders agree that Fratco’s arrival represents more than just a new business; it’s a long-term investment in the region’s economic future.

“Fratco choosing to locate their Southeastern manufacturing hub here reminds the world that DeKalb County is the proven place for business,” said Brett Johnson, executive director of the DeKalb County Economic Development Authority. “Their work will directly change the lives of many families in our region, and the ripple effect on our economy will last for generations.”

Fort Payne Mayor Brian Baine echoed that sentiment, emphasizing how the project fits into the city’s ongoing economic diversification efforts.

“Fratco’s location here continues our steady pace of growth of local employment opportunities,” Baine said. “The city of Fort Payne is proud to see this project come out of the ground as we continue to diversify Fort Payne’s industrial base.”

Strengthening the Region’s Economic Momentum

Fratco’s investment underscores the Greater Chattanooga Economic Partnership’s ongoing mission to support business growth throughout the tri-state region. With DeKalb County leading the way, this project stands as a shining example of how collaboration, community support and strategic investment can drive shared prosperity.

Dalton Tackles Workforce Housing Shortage with Innovative Infill Project

Dalton, Georgia, is taking a major step forward in addressing housing needs with the groundbreaking of the Hamilton Street Rural Workforce Housing Project, a 40-unit urban infill development aimed at providing high-quality, affordable housing for the local workforce.

Funded in part by a $1.5 million grant from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, the development will deliver owner-occupied, single-family detached homes ranging from one to three bedrooms. The neighborhood will include HOA standards to support long-term maintenance and beautification along the corridor, creating a vibrant, attractive community just steps from downtown.

“This project is about more than bricks and mortar — it’s about people,” said Carl Campbell, Executive Director of the Dalton-Whitfield County Joint Development Authority (JDA). “Over 30,000 of our workers live outside of our community, some commuting over an hour one way every day. This development is about creating opportunities for our workers and families that keep our community strong. It’s about making sure they have more affordable, desirable options and a place to call home in the heart of Dalton. The JDA is proud to partner with Believe Greater Dalton and the Flooring Capital Development Corporation to make this project come to fruition.”

The project was driven by housing studies led by the Joint Development Authority and Believe Greater Dalton, which revealed critical gaps in local housing and confirmed strong demand. The data shaped the vision for workforce-focused, infill development and served as the foundation for the initiative’s goals. Construction is set to begin this summer, with homes expected to be available in 2026 and 2027.

Chattannoga Makes Liviabiltiy Top 100 Places to Live

Chattanooga makes headlines once again, and this time in a major way! This year Livability released its top 100 places to live, and Chattanooga was on that list! Not only was Chattanooga top 100 it also was ranked one of the best places to live in Tennessee. Here’s why-

Nestled between ridges and the Tennessee River, Chattanooga has always been known as “The Scenic City.” But beyond the beauty, there’s a city that’s affordable, innovative, and full of opportunity.

For Starters Chattanooga offers something that’s increasingly hard to find: a high quality of life at a low cost. With a median home value just under $300,000 and no state income tax, families, young professionals, and retirees are finding it easier to settle down here. Rent remains affordable, and property taxes are some of the lowest in the nation.

But this isn’t just a great place to live, it’s a great place to thrive. Chattanooga is home to major employers like Volkswagen, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, and Erlanger Health System. Often referred to as “Gig City” for being a first in fiber internet space attracting startups and remote work for both speed and scenery.

And when the workday ends? The outdoors begins. Chattanooga’s location means you’re always able to access nature and the beauty of the outdoors whether that’s hiking Lookout Mountain, kayaking on the river, or exploring Coolidge Park. Work life balance actually exists here in 423.

Chattanooga also shines in culture and community. So, whether you’re thinking about moving, starting a business, or just curious what all the talk is about, Chattanooga is more than just a beautiful city, it’s a place full of possibility.
